Está no mapa - It´s in the map!

Esta é a arte de um mapa que eu acabei de terminar para um cliente, que é um hotel localizado na cidade de Amparo/SP. O original é um A2, em papel Montval 300g, da Canson (maravilhoso esse papel!). Usei aquarela, nanquim e um mínino de lápis de cor.

Vai ser usado pro novo site do hotel e pra alguns impressos. Tive que fazer bem grande porque o hotel é grande (rs) e porque assim me permitiria dar os detalhes que eu quisesse. Claro que o mapa é de livre interpretação artística, portanto sem escala, mas ficou até que bem fiel ao real.

This is the art for a map I just finished for a client, a hotel placed in the town of Amparo, in São Paulo State. The original is size A2, in Canson Montval paper (which is awesome!). I used watercolor, Indian ink and a minimum of colored pencil. It´s gonna be used in the new hotel´s website and for a few printed material. I had to have it big because, well, the hotel is pretty big (giggles) and ´cause thus I could do the details that I wanted. Of course the map is of free artistic interpretation, therefore scale free, but it ended up quite close to the real deal.

O panteão egípcio - Fim! / The Egyptian pantheon - The End!

É isso aí, visitantes do blog!
Acabei (finalmente) este projeto. Demorou um pouco por causa da técnica escolhida (lápis de cor é assim mesmo) e por causa do dia-a-dia do desenhista que sempre traz urgências maiores pra "atrapalhar". Mas os 2 últimos feriados ajudaram a me debruçar um pouco mais em cima disso e - voilá! Espero que gostem!

Bolei uma legendinha bacana pra ninguém ficar perdido no entendimento de quem é quem nesse trabalho. Agora ele vai ser colocado na exposição da Ânima no próxima dia 30, sexta-feira, a partir das 20h (na sede da escola. Visite www.anima.art.br ).

Apareçam lá! A entrada é franca e vai ter mais uma porção de coisa muito bonita pra se ver.

That´s it, blog visitors!

I (finally) finished this project. It took a little longer because of the technique of choice (colored pencils are actually like that) and 'cause of the daily life of an illustrator, which always brings bigger urgencies that "get in the way". But the last 2 holidays helped me dedicate to this a little more and - voilá! I hope you like it!

I created a "subtitle", a "who´s whow" for this piece, so you won´t get lost. Now it´s gonna be exposed in Anima´s art exhibition that takes place in November 30th, friday, at 8 PM (at the school´s HQ. Visit www.anima.art.br ).

Show up there! The entrance is free and there´s gonna be a lot more other beautiful stuff to be seen.

Deuses do Egito (quase lá!) - Egyptian Gods (half-finished!)

Olá, leitor!

Resolvi postar aqui o desenho em sua etapa intermediária. Várias pessoas às vezes têm curiosidade em conhecer os "bastidores" do que a gente faz; hoje mesmo inclusive, lendo e-mails e tendo conversas com alunos, percebi um pouco mais isso e decidi dar uma "palhinha" de bastidores.

A pintura está na metade e você vai notar algumas diferenças entre como o desenho está agora e o esboço do post passado.

É isso aí: o processo de elaboração às vezes não pára no esboço "final"!

Espero que a próxima vez que esta belezinha apareça aqui no blog seja porque está pronta!

Hello, dear reader!

I decided to post this drawing in its intermediate stage. Many people, sometimes, have the curiosity to see the "making of" of what we do; today, reading e-mails and havong conversations with students, I realized it a little bit more and decided to give you a sneak peak on it.

the painting is its half and you will notice some differences between the drawing the way it is now and the last post sketch.

That´s it, my friend: the elaboration process, sometimes, doesn´t stop in the "final" rough!

I hope next time this beauty shows up here is because it´s ready!

O panteão egípcio (esboço) - The Egyptian pantheon (sketch)

Hoje posto aqui o esboço em A3 do desenho que estou fazendo do panteão egípcio.

Gosto sempre de fazer o esboço de cada trabalho já no tamanho final. Aí uso a mesa de luz pra passar pro papel definitivo; este aqui pretendo finalizar em lápis de cor.

Sempre que há a passagem pro outro papel, mudo alguma coisa no desenho: ou porque achei um defeito ou porque simplesmente pensei em uma solução melhor pra alguma coisa. Aqui acho que vou mudar o rosto de Ísis (a mulher mais em destaque, abaixo) e a posição de Nut (a mulher mais afastada, em cima).

Today I post here the A3 size sketch of the drawing that I´m making of the Egyptian pantheon.

I always like to make every sketch in the size of the final drawing. Then, I use a light table to pass it onto the definitive paper; this one here I intend to finish with colored pencils.

When I use the light table, I always change something in my work: be it 'cause I found a mistake or 'cause I simply thought about a better solution to improve something. Here I think I´m gonna change Isis face (the larger woman, bottom of the page) and Nut´s pose (the smaller woman, at the top).

Estréio meu blog postando este esboço aqui: na verdade é só o thumbnail, em tamanho pequeno mesmo porque é um estudo bem preliminar do trabalho. Ele é para o meu trabalho da exposição de final de ano da minha escola de Arte, a Ânima Academia de Arte (link pro site da escola na sessão "links"). Sempre que rola exposição dos alunos os professores também participam, e o tema deste final de ano é "Lendas e Mitos". Tema bem legal, bem abrangente e que dá bastante espaço pra criatividade.

Escolhi a mitologia egípcia; curto pra caramba o Egito e o que diz respeito a ele, então essa escolha era certa! Aguardem que logo-logo pinta o esboço maior, já em A3. Inté!

Premiering my blog, here´s a little sketch: in fact, it´s just a thumbnail, a small version made as a very preliminary study of the work in progress. It´s for my work for this year-end expo of my Art scholl, the Ânima Academia de Arte (link for the school website on the "links" session). Always when there´s a student´s expo going on, the teachers take part too, and this year´s theme is "Legends and Myths". Cool theme, very broad and gives a lot of room for creativity.

I picked Egyptian mythology; I dig a lot of Egypt and all things related, so this was a no-brainer! Soon, you´ll see here a bigger sketch, A3 size, OK?
